Going dark with decor
Updated: Mar 30
Hi all, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying a happy and healthy 2022!
I spent the break with my family and also squeezed in a little renovation project...my bedroom turned from white to the deepest plummy purple and I just love it!
Going dark with decor can sometimes be a little daunting but I carefully considered it before buying the paint.
Firstly, my room is south facing so I knew it was going to be a bright room that could take a darker colour. Secondly I already had lots of white furniture which would pop against the walls and thirdly I remembered that you can always paint over it if it isn't right!
I browsed Instagram and Pinterest for some inspiration and found some wonderful navy blues, steel greys and opulent blacks. Some of you are absolutely fearless!
I decided to go for Dulux 'Mulberry Burst'. It is a really rich colour that I think looks elegant and feels like a cosy sanctuary. I have added some botanical prints I already had from Dunelm from a few years back. I do have some of my own art work around the house and there are a few pieces of my work which team well with dark walls. One thing I would say is going from light to dark takes many coats...I went through 3.5 litres for a standard size bedroom.
If you are also going dark, check out my Tulip Festival series which all teamed moody black backgrounds with bright pops of colourful blooms! There are still some of the originals available as well as prints. Check them out here
Have you gone for a bold or brave colour choice? Tag me on Instagram if so, I would love to see!
All the love,
